Box Condition Policy
The term “mint condition” is a relative term in the Funko Pop community that may vary from collector to collector. That’s why we’ve created this handy guide to explain how we evaluate the condition of the Funko Pop’s boxes accurately, so that you know what to expect your Pop’s box to look like. We are only looking at the box, not the Pop itself. Since we cannot see the entire Pop without removing it from the box (which we won’t do), it’s impossible for us to assess the actual Pop’s accurately. Condition is subjective and not everybody will see things the same way, therefore you are always welcome to request photos of any Pop’s box condition that is in-stock to evaluate yourself before purchasing. Most collectors would consider us very conservative when it comes to evaluating the condition of boxes, but we follow the general guidelines accepted internationally.
All pre-order and special order Pops (only valid for standard 4-inch size Pops) supplied can be expected to be near mint (8/9) or mint (10), unless otherwise stated. If a Pop box is noted to be below an 8 grading on arrival, we will contact you with photos for you to evaluate whether you are happy with the condition and where applicable, offer a discount, store credit or refund/replacement (judged individually and depending on various circumstances). Not all pre-orders or special orders will be sent photos on arrival, only those below an 8 grading will receive photos to inform thereof. If you have been notified that your pre-order has arrived, you can expect your pops box condition to be in near mint/mint condition (8-10 grading), but you are always welcome to request photos to inspect the box condition yourself before shipping/collection. Pop boxes that we have graded 8-10 do not qualify for a discount or refund and will follow the standard cancellation rules laid out in our return policy. All other size Pop boxes we cannot ensure will arrive in near mint/mint box condition due to the complexity involved in shipping, but each case will be assessed individually (similarly to that of standard size Pops) and discussed with the client concerned.
Any in-stock pop that is sold without photos being requested are sold as is and will not be cancelled or refunded, so please read the descriptions carefully and request photos before purchasing if you are an in-box collector.
NB: A pop noted as mint or near mint in the description is on the scale of 8-10. More significant flaws such as 5-7 conditions will be noted as slightly damaged or damaged in the description. Anything below a 5 would be noted in the description and tagged as damaged.
At the bottom of the page are visual aids that will show you examples of what we consider minor, moderate, and severe flaws to be. Keep in mind that we are only evaluating the box and not the actual Pop itself. Many Pops will exhibit paint flaws from the factory – this is not something we factor into our condition scale.
This is a general guide as to what each condition will look like and the damage we look for:
Mint / 10 – This is as close to perfect as you can get for a box, with no visible box flaws present. Suitable for all in-box collectors.
Near Mint / 9 – A Pop that is nearly perfect. A 9 will only show 1 or 2 barely noticeable flaws that are visible only upon close inspection. Suitable for most in-box collectors.
Near Mint / 8 – The box will be very presentable and will show very little flaws/wear. The box may exhibit one/a few minor flaws/wear, but is still considered undamaged and in good condition. Suitable for most in-box collectors.
Slightly Damaged / 7 – The wear on a 7 will be far more noticeable, but the Pop will still present well. The box may exhibit several minor flaws or a few moderate flaws. Suitable for some in-box collectors and all out-of-box collectors.
Slightly Damaged / 6 – The box may show several moderate or a severe flaw. 6 is the level where the flaws on the box starts to become more obvious and the visual presentation is compromised. Suitable only for a few in-box collectors and all out-of-box collectors.
Damaged / 5 – This is where things start to get ugly. A 5 will have several severe flaws but still be somewhat presentable. Suitable only for a few in-box collectors and all out-of-box collectors.
Damaged / < 5 – These boxes are really badly damaged and only suited for out-of-box collectors.
*The following occurrences are not factored into our condition evaluation: stickers applied by retailers, rounded windows (vs windows with a straight folded seam), rounded boxes, and paint blemishes on the Pop itself.
*There is always an element of judgement involved when it comes to the condition of Pops. The condition we assign to any particular Pop is our opinion, no more and no less. Please understand that this isn’t an exact science, but we do the best we can to be consistent when it comes to evaluating condition. Please request photos BEFORE purchasing if you are very particular about box condition.
Pop protectors are not supplied with all pop purchases. If provided, all promotional pop protectors are not guaranteed to be the same brand/variant as those sold on the website. The promotional pop protectors will be supplied based on availability and/or brand availability. For an additional charge, Pop Protectors can be added to all standard size and some larger sized Pops that are ordered from Kitsune Relics, prior to shipment or collection.
